Starting Over

Starting Over

Trying to come to terms
With loneliness and change
This life is fast becoming a consequence
Of another’s desires and wishes
To remain as unchanged.

We care about people we love
We care about people we like
We even care about people we know
But to care as pretence to love
Evokes a deep sense of deception.

Conditional affection in itself is betrayal
We either love or loathe
The median is futile
We cannot pretend to care
For pretence is another’s hurt.

Leave the one you loathe
For we have little precious time
To find love and happiness
And the trusting relationship
In a new beginning.

Do not be discouraged
By one flawed relationship
There is a starting point
Where new treasures await
And we shall have second options.
